Dog Crates are required at all classes with the exception of Beginner Obedience, and Advanced Beginner Obedience.  Dogs must be crated when not in the ring.

    Class Description:

    This class will focus on teaching the Utility exercises used in AKC Utility competition.  This class will provide each student with 15 minutes of private instruction.  Handlers will also help each other by putting out articles and gloves, and doing the moving stand exercise. 

    Prerequisites: Your dog must have a reliable Retrieve and be able to work off lead with other dogs also off lead. 

    Equipment:  You must have a set of scent articles and 3 white gloves.  See AKC Obedience Rules for requirements for articles and gloves.

    Class Description:

    In this class you will learn basic Obedience for a well behaved pet at home and in the neighborhood.  You and your dog will learn how to walk on a loose leash, as well as basic commands such as sit, down and come.  This class teaches beginning requirements toward your dog becoming a Canine Good Citizen.

    Class Description 

    This is a step towards the competition ring  for  Obedience and  Rally and prepares students for CGC/CGCA and Beginner Novice title.

    Prerequisites: Dog and handler have completed a Beginner Obedience class or handler has trained a dog before. Dog should be able to do a sit and down on command and does a controlled walk on leash.

    You will be working on tightening up your obedience handling skills, learn the figure 8, stand/sit for exam and work on attention along with advanced stays. Exercises from Beginner Novice Obedience, Novice Obedience, Rally and the CGC and CGCA tests will be worked on.

    Emphasis will be placed on attention and learning how to work as a team to give handlers and dogs a  good foundation.

    Class Description

    Interested in impressing your friends and family with dog tricks but don’t know how to get started?  Want to earn your AKC Trick titles? Then this class is for you. Your dog must have basic obedience skills as taught in our Puppy Kindergarten and Beginner Obedience classes.

    Learn tricks like shake, spin, roll over, go to sleep, maybe even skateboarding. Tricks Class will address all levels of tricks titles.

    Class will include a Tricks Test to qualify for AKC Tricks titles the last week.

    Class Description:

    This class is for dogs who want to compete in AKC Obedience.  The skills taught in this class will get you ready to enter an AKC Obedience trial at the Novice level.  Skills taught are: precision heeling on lead and off lead, Stand stay with a person able to go over the dog, recall from 30 ft away , fronts and finishes.  You will also learn some training games to keep the training upbeat.  

    Prerequisites for this class: completion of the Advance beginner class or an AKC BN title.

    Class Description

    For the competitor just starting to train for Utility Obedience.  This class will cover how to teach your dog the exercises for AKC Utility Obedience Competition.  The class will cover the basics of Utility ring procedure. Handlers will learn how to start your dog for scent articles, directed retrieve, hand signals without voice commands, directed jumping including a go out across a 40 ft ring and the moving stand.   Dogs must have good off leash control and know how to heel both on and off leash with distractions.    

    Prerequisite:  You must have earned a minimum of 1 leg towards your AKC Companion Dog Excellent Title (CDX)

    Required Equipment for the class

           1 set of articles consisting of 2 of the following sets, 6 leather articles, 6 metal articles or 6 wood articles.

            3 white gloves

    Class Description

    This class will introduce you to the sport of Rally.  Rally combines various obedience skills such as sit, down and stand into a course.  It is upbeat and fun for both you and your dog.  This class will teach you how to perform the 42 novice rally signs and practice stringing them together into a course.  By the end of the class you will be ready to enter an AKC Rally Trial at the novice level. 

    Prerequisites: Your dog must have completed a beginner Obedience class and be capable of performing sit, down, stay, and come on command and walk on a loose leash.  

    A Crate for your dog is Mandatory Equipment that you will need each week at the class.

    Dogs must be crated when not in the ring.

    This class is limited to six teams.

    Class Description

    For handlers and their dogs that have completed Introduction to Rally, Novice Rally, or have some previous Rally experience. The focus will be on learning and practicing the AKC Intermediate/Advanced exercises.

    Dog and handler teams will learn the skills  necessary to execute the  exercises needed to run Intermediate/Advanced Rally courses successfully.  The course is broken up into learning each of the exercises defined by the Intermediate/ Advanced Rally Signs and learning how to perform them within a course.  By the end of the session you will have learned all the intermediate/ advance rally signs.  Class courses will increase in difficulty each week with greater numbers of Intermediate exercises incorporated.  This class is taught all on leash. 


    Prerequisites:  Your dog must have completed the Novice Rally Class, Intro to Rally Class or have their Novice rally title.

    A dog crate is required for this class.

    Class Description: 

    This class is for Puppies up to 10 Months by the start of class.  This class follows the AKC guidelines for the  Star Puppy Program. This program focuses on the bond development between puppy and owner. 

    The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class

    Below is listed the 20 steps to success with your puppy

    20 STEPS To Success: The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® TEST

    OWNER BEHAVIORS:

    1. Maintains puppy’s health (vaccines, exams, appears healthy)

    2. Owner receives Responsible Dog Owner’s Pledge

    3. Owner describes adequate daily play and exercise plan

    4. Owner and puppy attend at least 6 classes by an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator

    5. Owner brings bags to classes for cleaning up after puppy

    6. Owner has obtained some form of ID for puppy-collar tag, etc.

    PUPPY BEHAVIORS:

    7. Free of aggression toward people during at least 6 weeks of class

    8. Free of aggression toward other puppies in class

    9. Tolerates collar or body harness of owner’s choice

    10. Owner can hug or hold puppy (depending on size)

    11. Puppy allows owner to take away a treat or toy

    PRE-CANINE GOOD CITIZEN® TEST BEHAVIORS

    12. Allows (in any position) petting by a person other than the owner

    13. Grooming-Allows owner handling and brief exam (ears, feet)

    14. Walks on a Leash-Follows owner on lead in a straight line (15 steps)

    15. Walks by other people-Walks on leash past other people 5-ft away

    16. Sits on command-Owner may use a food lure

    17. Down on command-Owner may use a food lure

    18. Comes to owner from 5-ft when name is called

    19. Reaction to Distractions-distractions are presented 15-ft away

    • Class Description

    • Dogs in this class must be on odor or have completed Introduction to Scent Work. This class will work on improving the foundational skills needed by scent work teams. It will cover reading your dog, effective handling skills, searching and motivation, challenges, and confidence building for both the dog and handler. We will also discuss scent work trials and elements, odor behavior, and hide setting.

      Class Description

    • This class will explore the basic concepts of Scent Work. It will cover how to play fun Scent Training games at home to meet your dog’s need for mental and physical stimulation. As your dog learns to problem solve and gain focus, this class will also give an overview of the competitive aspect of the sport by introducing odor (the scented oils dog search for at a trial) and covering some foundational skills for handlers.
      This class is good for dogs needing more confidence, dogs who have a lot energy and need a job, as well as senior dogs and those recovering from an injury.

    Class Description 

    This class will introduce and perfect the exercises required for the Beginner Novice and Novice Obedience classes for AKC obedience competition.  You will learn heeling in proper position thru turns and pace changes, recalls including fronts and finishes, exams without moving and sit and down stays.  This class is designed to be repeated multiple times as most dogs require more than 7 weeks time to be proficient in all the skills being taught.    

    Prerequisites: Dogs must know how to sit and down on command, walking with you on a loose leash and be able to sit quietly at your side.

    Class Description 

    This class is for those teams who compete or plan to compete in AKC Obedience and want to refresh their skills as well as improve upon their heeling.  In addition, there will be a focus on attention and handling. You will also be introduced to various ways you can make heeling more fun and motivating for your dog. Positive proofing and motivational training games for both heeling and attention will be included. Dogs must already know how to heel and must be reliable with off leash heeling. 


    Prerequisites:  Dogs MUST have reliable off-leash control and be able to heel both on and off lead around other dogs and distractions.

    Class Description

    For handlers and their dogs that have completed Intermediate  Rally.   The focus will be  working off leash on the  AKC Advanced exercises.

    Dog and handler teams will learn the skills  necessary to execute the  exercises needed to run Intermediate/Advanced Rally courses successfully.  The class  will provide instruction for performing the advanced rally signs and provide Advanced level courses to train on.   


    Prerequisites:  Your dog must have completed the Intermediate rally class or have earned their intermediate  rally title.

    A crate is required each week for your dog so handlers are free to walk the course and learn the necessary footwork for each exercise.

        Class Description:

        This Class is for students that have not had any prior training.  The exercises taught will be Walk on a loose leash, Sit and Down exercises, Recall, Leave it command, Teach your dog not to Jump up.  Teach your dog how to enter and exit doors.  Some distractions will be used to enhance Sit and Down stays along with the Recall and Walking on a loose leash.  House manners will also be included.   This class teaches beginning requirements toward your dog becoming a Canine Good Citizen.
