Dog Crates are required at all classes with the exception of  Star Puppy,  Puppy Obedience, Beginner Obedience, and Advanced Beginner Obedience.

    Class Description:

    This class is for young dogs who have completed the Advanced Foundations in Obedience class or the Competition Novice Obedience class.  This class will introduce most of the Open and Utility exercises to young dogs with games and props, and will give young dogs the “picture” for the advanced classes at a young age. 

    Prerequisites for this class: completion of the Advance beginner class or the Competition Novice class

    Required equipment: Dumbbell  and Articles.  Do not purchase prior to the first class so you can learn how to size them appropriately.

    Class Description 

    Get ready for a new AKC Fetch title with this class for Novice and Intermediate Fetch.  This class will instruct handlers on rules and regulations for AKC Fetch at the Novice and Intermediate levels.  We will practice line manners, marking, and retrieving skills.  Dogs must be over 6 months old and not be reactive to people or other dogs.  


    Long leads, bumpers, etc will be provided for this class.  Please bring plenty of water as we are working outdoors in the fenced in area behind the MADTA building.   


    AKC Fetch is a pass-fail noncompetitive test.  At the Novice level, dogs will retrieve a ball, bumper or toy at a distance of 30 feet navigating between four obstacles three times.  At the Intermediate level, dogs will retrieve a ball, bumper or toy at a distance of 50 feet navigating between 8 obstacles three times.  


    Crates are required for this class.  Dogs can be crated in your car or outdoors under the canopy while not working

    Class Description:

    This class will focus on teaching the Open exercises used in The AKC Open Obedience class. Each week we will work on 2-3 exercises, and we will be working many of the exercises with a few different dogs and handlers in the ring.  

    Prerequisites: Your dog must have a reliable Retrieve and be able to work off lead with other dogs also off lead. 

    Equipment:  You must have a dumbbell.

    Class Description:

    This class will focus on teaching the Utility exercises used in AKC Utility competition.  This class will provide each student with 15 minutes of private instruction.  Handlers will also help each other by putting out articles and gloves, and doing the moving stand exercise. 

    Prerequisites: Your dog must have a reliable Retrieve and be able to work off lead with other dogs also off lead. 

    Equipment:  You must have a set of scent articles and 3 white gloves.  See AKC Obedience Rules for requirements for articles and gloves.

    Class Description:

    In this class you will learn basic Obedience for a well behaved pet at home and in the neighborhood.  You and your dog will learn how to walk on a loose leash, as well as basic commands such as sit, down and come.  This class teaches beginning requirements toward your dog becoming a Canine Good Citizen.

    Class Description

    Interested in impressing your friends and family with dog tricks but don’t know how to get started?  Want to earn your AKC Trick titles? Then this class is for you. Your dog must have basic obedience skills as taught in our Puppy Kindergarten and Beginner Obedience classes.

    Learn tricks like shake, spin, roll over, go to sleep, maybe even skateboarding. Tricks Class will address all levels of tricks titles.

    Class will include a Tricks Test to qualify for AKC Tricks titles the last week.

    Class Description:

    This class is for dogs who want to compete in AKC Obedience.  The skills taught in this class will get you ready to enter an AKC Obedience trial at the Novice level.  Skills taught are: precision heeling on lead and off lead, Stand stay with a person able to go over the dog, recall from 30 ft away , fronts and finishes.  You will also learn some training games to keep the training upbeat.  

    Prerequisites for this class: completion of the Advance beginner class or an AKC BN title.

    Class Description 

    This is a step towards the competition ring  for  Obedience and  Rally and prepares students for CGC/CGCA

    Prerequisites: Dog and handler have completed a Beginner Obedience class or handler has trained a dog before. Dog should be able to do a sit and down on command and does a controlled walk on leash.

    You will be working on tightening up your obedience handling skills, learn the figure 8, stand/sit for exam and work on attention along with advanced stays. Exercises from Beginner Novice Obedience, Novice Obedience, Rally and the CGC and CGCA tests will be worked on.

    Emphasis will be placed on attention and learning how to work as a team to give handlers and dogs a  good foundation.

    Class Description This class will focus on the exercises required for AKC Open Obedience Competition.  The class will cover the basics for proper execution of each of the exercises.  For those dogs that do not have a retrieve this is the class for you.  In this class you will teach your dog 2 different jumps the high jump and the broad jump.  For the more experienced teams they will work on proofing exercises and polishing up their performance for the ring.  All dogs must have good off leash control and be capable to heel both on and off leash with distractions.  Items covered in the class will be learning the drop on recall, position changes, retrieving and the jumps.  Varying degrees of distractions and ring pressure bases on the teams level of experience will be utilized.

    Prerequisite:  You must have earned a minimum of 1 leg towards your AKC Companion Dog Title.

    Class Description

    For the competitor just starting to train for Utility Obedience.  This class will cover how to teach your dog the exercises for AKC Utility Obedience Competition.  The class will cover the basics of Utility ring procedure. Handlers will learn how to start your dog for scent articles, directed retrieve, hand signals without voice commands, directed jumping including a go out across a 40 ft ring and the moving stand.   Dogs must have good off leash control and know how to heel both on and off leash with distractions.    

    Prerequisite:  You must have earned a minimum of 1 leg towards your AKC Companion Dog Excellent Title (CDX)

    Required Equipment for the class

           1 set of articles consisting of 2 of the following sets, 6 leather articles, 6 metal articles or 6 wood articles.

            3 white gloves

    Class Description

    This class will introduce you to the sport of Rally.  Rally combines various obedience skills such as sit, down and stand into a course.  It is upbeat and fun for both you and your dog.  This class will teach you how to perform the 42 novice rally signs and practice stringing them together into a course.  By the end of the class you will be ready to enter an AKC Rally Trial at the novice level. 

    Prerequisites: Your dog must have completed a beginner Obedience class and be capable of performing sit, down, stay, and come on command and walk on a loose leash.  

    A Crate for your dog is Mandatory Equipment that you will need each week at the class.

    This class is limited to six teams.

    Class Description

    For handlers and their dogs that have completed Introduction to Rally, Novice Rally, or have some previous Rally experience. The focus will be on learning and practicing the AKC Intermediate/Advanced exercises.

    Dog and handler teams will learn the skills  necessary to execute the  exercises needed to run Intermediate/Advanced Rally courses successfully.  The course is broken up into learning each of the exercises defined by the Intermediate/ Advanced Rally Signs and learning how to perform them within a course.  By the end of the session you will have learned all the intermediate/ advance rally signs.  Class courses will increase in difficulty each week with greater numbers of Intermediate exercises incorporated.  This class is taught all on leash. 


    Prerequisites:  Your dog must have completed the Novice Rally Class, Intro to Rally Class or have their Novice rally title.

    A crate is required each week for your dog so handlers are free to walk the course and learn the necessary footwork for each exercise.

    Class Description: 

    This class is for Puppies up to 10 Months by the start of class.  This class follows the AKC guidelines for the  Star Puppy Program. This program focuses on the bond development between puppy and owner. 

    The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy is an exciting program designed to get dog owners and their puppies off to a good start. The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy Program is an incentive program for loving dog owners who have taken the time to take their puppies through a basic training class

    Below is listed the 20 steps to success with your puppy

    20 STEPS To Success: The AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy® TEST

    OWNER BEHAVIORS:

    1. Maintains puppy’s health (vaccines, exams, appears healthy)

    2. Owner receives Responsible Dog Owner’s Pledge

    3. Owner describes adequate daily play and exercise plan

    4. Owner and puppy attend at least 6 classes by an AKC Approved CGC Evaluator

    5. Owner brings bags to classes for cleaning up after puppy

    6. Owner has obtained some form of ID for puppy-collar tag, etc.

    PUPPY BEHAVIORS:

    7. Free of aggression toward people during at least 6 weeks of class

    8. Free of aggression toward other puppies in class

    9. Tolerates collar or body harness of owner’s choice

    10. Owner can hug or hold puppy (depending on size)

    11. Puppy allows owner to take away a treat or toy

    PRE-CANINE GOOD CITIZEN® TEST BEHAVIORS

    12. Allows (in any position) petting by a person other than the owner

    13. Grooming-Allows owner handling and brief exam (ears, feet)

      Class Description

    • Dogs in this class must be on odor (paired or unpaired), or completed Introduction to Scent Work. This class will lay the foundation of the skills needed by beginner scent work teams. It will cover reading your dog, beginner handling, dog searching and motivation, challenges, and confidence building for both the dog and handler. We will also discuss scent work trials and elements, odor behavior, and hide setting. This class is good for handlers who are just starting out or want to go back to the basics, dogs who are still building their scent work skills, or dogs who need confidence in scent work searches.

      Class Description

    • This class will explore the basic concepts of Scent Work. It will cover how to play fun Scent Training games at home to meet your dog’s need for mental and physical stimulation. As your dog learns to problem solve and gain focus, this class will also give an overview of the competitive aspect of the sport by introducing odor (the scented oils dog search for at a trial) and covering some foundational skills for handlers.
      This class is good for dogs needing more confidence, dogs who have a lot energy and need a job, as well as senior dogs and those recovering from an injury.

    Class Description 

    This is a step towards the competition ring  for  Obedience and  Rally and prepares students for CGC/CGCA

    Prerequisites: Dog and handler have completed a Beginner Obedience class or handler has trained a dog before. Dog should be able to do a sit and down on command and does a controlled walk on leash.

    You will be working on tightening up your obedience handling skills, learn the figure 8, stand/sit for exam and work on attention along with advanced stays. Exercises from Beginner Novice Obedience, Novice Obedience, Rally and the CGC and CGCA tests will be worked on.

    Emphasis will be placed on attention and learning how to work as a team to give handlers and dogs a  good foundation.

    This course is designed for the teams that have a full understanding of the rally signs 1-123.  Dogs work off leash and are able to jump the required height jump for the size of their dog.  This class will polish performances for all the rally signs focusing on the Master and Excellent levels. 


    The class will focus on execution of the signs in addition to performing master/excellent level courses

    This class is for dog and handler teams who plan to compete in or have just started to compete in Novice or Beginner Novice.  Exercises and skills will be polished and proofed to help teams improve their performances and become ring ready.  Ring entry skills, transitions between exercises, handling, footwork and rules review will be covered.  Distraction training and training games to boost the dog's confidence and understanding of the exercises will be covered as well.


    Prerequisite: Novice teams should have an understanding of the Novice exercises and dogs should be able to work around other dogs off leash.  Beginner Novice teams should have an understanding of the Beginner Novice exercises and will work on lead during this class.

    Class Description

    For handlers and their dogs that have completed Intermediate  Rally.   The focus will be  working off leash on the  AKC Advanced exercises.

    Dog and handler teams will learn the skills  necessary to execute the  exercises needed to run Intermediate/Advanced Rally courses successfully.  The class  will provide instruction for performing the advanced rally signs and provide Advanced level courses to train on.   


    Prerequisites:  Your dog must have completed the Intermediate rally class or have earned their intermediate  rally title.

    A crate is required each week for your dog so handlers are free to walk the course and learn the necessary footwork for each exercise.

    Class Description: 

    Dog Freestyle is a growing sport throughout the world.  It is also known as Dancing with your Dog.  Dogs and handlers choreograph movements and tricks to music.  This class will work with the combined knowledge of the group to learn and choreograph  routines for each of the teams.  Based on the skills of the teams and their routines the instructors will seek out music that will flow with the routine  creating a polished final performance.

    This class is for puppies up to 6 months of age by May 1. 

    This class is designed to teach basic puppy manners.   They will work on walking on a loose leash, sit, down, place and the beginning of stay and come. 

    We will go over basic problems they may encounter and ways to correct or help the puppy.

    Class Description:

    This class is for dogs who want to compete in AKC Obedience.  The skills taught in this class will get you ready to enter an AKC Obedience trial at the Novice level.  Skills taught are: precision heeling on lead and off lead, Stand stay with a person able to go over the dog, recall from 30 ft away , fronts and finishes.  You will also learn some training games to keep the training upbeat.
